Two reputed gang members have been charged in the slaying of a DePaul University senior at a Logan Square Halloween party over the weekend, authorities said.

Narciso Gatica, 19, of the 2400 block of West Armitage Avenue, and Berly Valladares, 21, of the 2600 block of West Cortland Street, are both charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder, said Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the Cook County State's Attorney's office.

The shooting occurred early Sunday morning in the 1700 block of North Rockwell after Gatica had been asked to leave the party, authorities said.

Gatica returned just as Francisco "Frankie" Valencia and another DePaul senior, Daisy Camacho, were greeting guests at the door, police said. He fired four to six shots, hitting the two victims, police said.

Neither victim was an intended target of the gunfire, according to investigators.

Detectives believe Valladares gave Gatica the gun but was not at the shooting. Police said at a press conference this afternoon that a TEC-9 semiautomatic handgun was recovered and that both defendants made statements implicating themselves in the shooting.

Valencia and Camacho had come down the stairs to let a guest in when "blinding gunfire shots" were aimed in their direction, said Alejandro Sanchez, a partygoer. He thought it was a Halloween prank until he saw Camacho on the ground bleeding.

"Three seconds after we're done greeting each other, a man walked up, took out a gun and fired," Sanchez said. "Frankie and the others were fast to react, to run and dodge it. ... It was only after he was done firing that I started walking backwards."

A vigil will be held at 5 p.m. today by the Alliance of Local Service Organization (ALSO), which serves the Logan Square and Humboldt Park Neighborhoods, at the site where Valencia was slain.

ALSO is part of the Ceasefire program that seeks to prevent community violence.

"We usually hear a lot of things whenever there's been violence, but in this case we've heard nothing, which is very unusual," said the organization's executive director, David Cassel."It leads me to believe this was not a planned killing."

Cassel's organization works principally with gang members who might be looking for revenge and mediates between warring gangs to prevent more violence.

"DePaul is grateful to the Chicago Police for its vigorous efforts to bring justice to Frankie Valencia," the university said today in a statement.

Visitation for Valencia is scheduled for 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave. in Norridge. His funeral is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent DePaul Church, 1010 W. Webster Ave.

The Weirdest Clouds that You’ll Ever See

Categories: Compilation, Inspiration, Nature

Nature has always been a source of inspiration for designers to look at things differently.

We all know that a tree doesn’t always have green leaves, water is not blue and clouds are certainly not always white and puffy. As designers, we need to know to look beyond the obvious when looking at things.

Cloud formations such as mammatus or lenticular among others, are perfect examples of how intricate and different nature can be. There are even so called ‘ufo clouds’, which truly resemble the shape of a UFO.

In this post, we take a look at some amazing photographs of the weirdest cloud formations that you’ll ever see, that are destined to

inspire your design work and surely blow your mind.
